NFL Suspends Faulk For Opener

BOSTON (WBZ) ― The National Football League suspended Patriots running back Kevin Faulk for the regular season opener for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy.

Faulk was also fined two games’ pay.

Faulk pleaded no contest in July to misdemeanor marijuana charges.

He will be eligible to return to the Patriots’ active roster on Sept. 8 following the team’s Sept. 7 opener against the Kansas City Chiefs. His suspension began Saturday.

Faulk was issued a misdemeanor summons for simple possession of marijuana at a Lil Wayne concert at the Cajundome in Lafayette, La., in February. A Lafayette Parish sheriff’s deputy allegedly found four marijuana cigarettes in Faulk’s jacket during a routine search.
