While Tito, Jackie, Marlon and Randy reunited Thursday to accept the award, Jermaine and Michael didn't attend the Wilshire Theatre ceremony.

Where was the Moonwalker?

"I don't know," Marlon told The Associated Press before the show. "I think he's in Egypt riding a camel or something."

The Jackson Five -- which included Michael along with Marlon, Jackie, Tito and Jermaine -- was a groundbreaking, best-selling act that debuted on the 1969 album "Diana Ross Presents The Jackson 5." The group simply became the Jacksons after leaving Motown in 1976, replacing Jermaine with Randy. They continued their multiplatinum success with such hits as "ABC" and "I Want You Back."

"It's a great honor to know your music influenced a generation," said Tito. "We're very proud of this moment."

The tribute kicked off with dance troupe Jabbawockeez performing a funky "Dancing Machine" routine. Music group ONE sang "I Want You Back." JoJo and Lloyd partnered on "I'll Be There" before Mario unleashed a high-energy rendition of "Heartbreak Hotel" and Keri Hilson crooned "Who's Loving You." The finale featured Mario, Bobby Valentino, Lloyd and Ray J teaming up for "Never Can Say Goodbye."

Before presenting her brothers with the award, Janet said her family was her greatest commodity and that she was proud to salute her siblings for their accomplishments in the music industry.

Following the acceptance of the icon award, the Jackson brothers posed on stage for photos with father Joseph, mother Katherine and sisters Janet, LaToya and Rebbie. The Jacksons did not perform.

Other BMI Urban Award winners included Soulja Boy, Polow Da Don, Rodney Jerkins and DJ Montay. Song of the year was awarded to Ne-Yo, Espen Lind and Amund Bjorklund for "Irreplaceable." Jonathan "J.R." Rotem, Kanye West and T-Pain were honored as producers of the year. T-Pain was also selected as songwriter of the year. Universal Music Publishing Group was given the publisher of the year award.

BMI -- Broadcast Music Inc. -- is a performing rights organization that collects license fees on behalf of its songwriters, composers and music publishers and distributes them as royalties to those members whose works have been performed.

(© 2008 The Associated Press.
BOSTON (WBZ) ― A longtime Department of Conservation and Recreation worker has been suspended for allegedly selling scrap metal from the same state labor yard that the Longfellow Bridge's historic metal trim is missing from, WBZ's Kathy Curran has learned.

The employee, whose name is not known, is accused of selling metal from a yard in Stoneham. According to sources, the worker allegedly used the money from the metal sales to fund a party for co-workers. He has been suspended for eight days.

His suspension comes as officials are trying to figure out what happened to 2,300 feet of the Longfellow metal trim stored at that same yard.

State officials said Thursday that as recently as about three weeks ago, all the sections from the Longfellow Bridge appeared to be on the site in Stoneham. Then, earlier this week, two-thirds of the total was discovered missing.

Boston police Commissioner Ed Davis said police will follow through with the investigation.

"We are taking this very seriously and will prosecute if necessary," he said.

Police have secured the Stoneham Labor Yard, where the missing 2,347 linear feet of decorative, cast-iron trim had been stored. The Middlesex County District Attorney's office has also launched an investigation into the disappearance.

Once melted down and resold as cast iron, the missing sections would be worth an estimated $10,000.

Officials said recreating the sections could cost as much as $750,000.

Last year approximately 3,467 linear feet of the decorative parapet coping was removed from the outside edge of the Longfellow Bridge while repairs to the bridge were under way. Officials planned to have the sections refurbished and eventually reattached to the bridge.

The sections were stacked in piles of 13 or 14 sections each in a fenced-in corner of the yard. As recently as about three weeks ago, all the sections appeared to be on the site, officials said.

The coping is unique, having been molded and cast about 100 years ago specifically to decorate the Longfellow Bridge.

(© MMVIII, CBS Broadcasting Inc.

BOSTON (WBZ) ― A longtime Department of Conservation and Recreation worker has been suspended for allegedly selling scrap metal from the same state labor yard that the Longfellow Bridge’s historic metal trim is missing from, WBZ’s Kathy Curran has learned.

(Read the full post about ‘DCR Worker Accused Of Stealing Scrap Metal’…)

BOSTON (WBZ) ― Gov. Deval Patrick is requesting federal disaster aid for shellfishermen hurt by this year's red tide outbreaks.

Between April and July, high levels of the toxic algae closed more than 600,000 acres of shellfish areas between the North Shore and Cape Cod.

The state estimates an overall economic loss of $7 million, which has affected about 1,100 commercial shellfish harvesters.

Patrick on Friday asked the U.S. Department of Commerce to declare a commercial fishery failure.

That would make the shellfishing industry eligible for federal disaster assistance. Patrick said the money is needed to prevent a local collapse of the industry.

Red tide algae, also known as paralytic shellfish poison, doesn't hurt shellfish, but it can harm humans who eat shellfish that have absorbed it.

It's a naturally occurring biotoxin caused by an algae that makes shellfish unsafe to eat.

Learn more about red tide and this year's harvest restrictions

(© 2008 CBS Broadcasting Inc.
